It's Official

Another marketing notch on my belt recently....I converted my blog into a website - www.michaelmillermusic.org.  Also, I have an official email - contact@michaelmillermusic.org.  Pretty legit huh :)  I'm currently listening to Spotify while typing this blog.  Listening to the new John Mayer album.  Really digging it.  I can definitely hear the J.J. Cale influence in this one.

I've played a few shows since my last blog post.  One with Casey Clark and Second Hand Still as well as a solo show at Carolina Vines in Newton.  Both shows went well.  I think I'm getting the hang of this solo thing :)

I have a show coming up this weekend at J. McCroskey's Irish Pub this Saturday December 7th at 10pm.  Can't wait to get out and perform again.  I'll make sure to post pictures and videos of my journey.  Until then.....

Big Show - The Crossing at Hollar Mill

Alight, I've started booking shows again!  I have several lined up for the next few weeks, but I'm particularly excited about this one.  It will be this coming Saturday November 23rd in Hickory at The Crossing at Hollar Mill.  I will be sharing the stage with Casey Clark & Secondhand Still.  Looking forward to a great night of music at an awesome venue.  Make sure to come out and support local, live, original music.  See you there!

"Youth is Wasted on the Young"

Hello Everybody,

It seems as though the season has changed.  It's getting cold!  I welcome change it inspires creativity.  Speaking of creativity....I've been doing a little creating myself!

You may already know that I perform at my wife's yoga studio Yoga Loft almost every Friday night....we call it Acoustic Flow.  One of my favorite parts during the yoga practice is when everyone stops for final Savasana, which is super peaceful after a grueling yoga practice.  During final Savasana I performed "Youth is Wasted on the Young".  I felt a special connection to the song, so I've decided to make it the title track on my upcoming EP.

I recorded "Youth is Wasted on the Young" this weekend.  It felt so natural while I was recording that I was able to finish the song in one afternoon.  Recording a song and getting the sound you want quickly is a special treat for any songwriter.

You can stream or download the "Youth is Wasted on the Young" below.

Let me know what you think.

Setting Up for the Future!

Hello Everybody,

Hope you have had a good week!  I've been setting up all of my social media accounts gearing up for my solo project.  There are so many great online tools for you to share your music, videos, and thoughts.  So far I have setup Facebook, YouTube, Blogger, and Bandcamp.  I plan on sharing through all of these platforms on a regular basis, so be on the lookout.

Now it's time to start working on demos for my first EP!  I'm thinking about recording everything acoustic, so I can match the sound at my solo shows.  I'm throwing around about 5 songs at this point.  I have some new songs, and some songs that I may pull from previous projects that will work well on acoustic.

Part of my weekly routine will be to record a video for your viewing pleasure :)  This week's YouTube video features a cover of Eric Church - "Like Jesus Does".  Not my typical genre, but thought I would give it a shot.  Check out the video below and let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading,

First Week as a Solo Artist

My first week as a solo artist has already passed!  I played two shows this week - one at Yoga Loft in Conover, NC, and one at Bootlegger's in Hickory, NC.  Both shows were tons 'o fun.

It has been refreshing to strip down my original songs and covers to one vocal and one acoustic guitar.  Performing & writing this way is making me focus more on chord progressions, melody, vocal performance, and lyrics.  This is a switch for me since I normally sing a few lyrics and then go to town on my stratocaster :)  I'm also excited about being more flexible as a solo artist.  I will be able to create music and content faster than ever, and share it with everyone via social media.

Thanks to everyone who liked my facebook page this week.  It means a lot!  Stay tuned for things to come!

PS - I'm searching for more songs to cover at bar gigs.  Do you have any suggestions?
